Sewing is Sew Satisfying!
Introduction to Sewing
for Beginners

Every website dedicated to sewing for beginners, intermediates or any other skill level should start with a formal introduction; so, here's mine!

Why Sew? To paraphrase Wikipedia, "sewing is used primarily to produce clothing and household furnishings and is also used in many other major industries." Which means, you can sew for fun or sew to make money! (And the memories you'll make are priceless.)

You have plain sewing for functional results, fancy sewing for decorative results (using hand and machine embroidery or the many pre-programmed decorative stitches that come with your sewing machine) and a combination of functional and fancy used to produce quilting, appliqué, and many other needle arts. Sewing is both a craft and an art form. Which makes people who do it, "crafty artists". Who knew?

The basics can be learned at any age, by either gender.

Sewing for Beginners - Start With the Basics:

Once you learn to sew a seam or learn some basic hand sewing, the sky’s the limit on what YOU can do.

Luckily for YOU, sewing machines on the market today are easy to use and the fun factor is huge. Also, learning to sew is no longer limited to home economics classes, weeknight lessons at a local crafts store, or your relatives. You can actually take classes on-line, though I personally would reserve that option for when your skill level is fairly advanced. Nothing like in-person, one-on-one attention. Trust me, in no time instead of looking for projects and information about sewing for beginners and intermediates, you'll be looking for projects and information about advanced sewing! Anyway, the resources for learning (or improving the skills you already have) are everywhere and fit every budget. Even yours. The Home Sewing Association is a good resource for finding sewing educators in your area. You can also check for names at your local sewing centers and sewing machine dealerships.

As with almost any endeavor you undertake, you are only limited by your imagination and willingness to keep learning. Sure there are sewing patterns for beginners and for all levels, but patterns are only the starting point to unleashing YOUR creativity. It won't be long at all until you will be sewing up a storm and the day will come when you will want to add a personalized label to your completed projects.

So... what are you waiting for?

I hope you will stay a while and browse around my site to see what's here. If you don't find what you are looking for then by all means jump on your web-board and continue surfing! There are many good sites dedicated to sewing for beginners and intermediates. Just don't stay away too long!
