About Karren and It's Sew Karren
Hi there!
So... you want to know a little about the person behind It's Sew Karren and what motivated me to add another site to the already overgrown world wide web! Ok, you really could care less about why I put up the site, but admit it, you ARE just a little bit curious about me. Hey, I'm the same way. I actually read these kind of pages too!
First of all, let me assure you that I really have been sewing for YEARS, but in no way consider myself an expert. Advanced, but not an expert. From time to time, I still make mistakes; which is why I believe having a sense of humor is a sewing essential and that "good" seam rippers (not the cheap ones) are a sewers best friend! I have a custom sewing and embroidery business which officially started in 2006. Prior to that I had a real job in an office for over twenty years and my sewing was reserved for family and friends. The business and this site are a dream that I decided to pursue after the infamous Hurricane Katrina that hit the Gulf.
The Personal Stuff
I live in Harvey, Louisiana which is a few miles outside of New Orleans on the side of the river known as the Westbank. I've lived on this side of the Mississippi for over sixteen years. I'm not a native to the state. I was born at Ft. Hood, Texas and due to my father's military career got bounced from there to Kansas and then to Louisiana when I was in junior high. Since being in this state, I've lived in eight different cities. (No, I was not running from the law! HA!)
I share a home with my wonderful husband whom I met late in my life and married in 2004 at the beautiful Bellagio Hotel in Las Vegas. What a fun wedding that was! Fourteen of our friends met us out there. I highly recommend destination weddings! Planning them is a bit tough, but it was sure worth it. A wedding and honeymoon for us and a mini-vacation for all the attendees. Of course, they paid all their own expenses. We are not the TomKat's of the Westbank! (Also, never say "never again" when it comes to relationships. The right one WILL come along.)
I love animals. I have had pets all my life and can't imagine a home without having several four legged family members being a part of it. Right now we have two dogs and two cats. When my daughter was growing up, in addition to dogs and cats, we had (at various times) hamsters, a mouse, rabbits (dwarfs and lops), birds, fish and the crabs you find sold at the tourist shops on the Gulf Coast. Why I'm not a pet shop owner is a mystery.
When I'm not sewing, I can be found outside on the patio enjoying the birds and squirrels that show up at my feeders (until the dogs see them). I also enjoy growing things that produce flowers or fruit and am particularly fond of my rose bushes. I also like to read and am seen quite often hanging out in Barnes and Noble's discount aisles looking for murder mysteries and other interesting reading, much to the dismay of my checkbook!
Well, that's enough about me. Now go sew something!
